Help / FAQ's - Articles / Forum

  • What is the "Articles / Forum" section?
Articles/Forum is an initiative to let everyone in the IDM community communicate and help each other by publishing, discussing and growing their knowledge. Be it sharing a simple code-snippet about a Rule that returns a value from the Lighthouse Policy, or open-sourcing a complex UserForm, or expressing complaints about a particular implementation of this technology, or announcing the newest developments in the niche field of IDM in general.. this is the place to share your wisdom!
  • What is the difference between an Article and a Forum?
An article is a write-up on a topic related to Sun IDM. The topics could range from simple findings, anomalies, facts -- to -- best practices in developing Workflows, Forms, etc -- to -- discussing how SPML works.. anything interesting to share with others working in this field. A forum in contrast relates to a particular question or a scenario that one wishes to have other opinions on. This leads to replies to the same thread, thus adding to the knowledge-based of everyone reading this thread.. a great way to grow your knowledge!
  • Can I attach files to support my write-up better?
Certainly! Depending on the need, you may want to attach screenshots, code-files, word/pdf documents or other attachments to be able to communicate better while resolving your issue or discussing a topic. This option to attach files is available while editing an article or posting a response to a forum thread and we encourage you to take advantage of this feature.
  • Can I modify my response I just posted on a forum?
In certain situations, you realize you wanted to add a word or two more to a response already submitted moments ago. No worries! While you still have your window open, you can modify your response and click "Save" again! The only catch is.. if someone else replied to your response first, you may not modify it. You can still provide a second follow-up response to it though.
  • What are those colors that show up on the articles' main page?
Colors are a good way to visually represent the different types of posts. We have used the following colors to indicate:
    • Blue: This is a forum-thread. It consists of questions about issues users face and the responses there-of.
    • Green: This is an article for discussion. Like a wiki, users are allowed to edit the content and refine it to perfection. The history of each contribution is available through the "View History" link at the bottom of the article.
    • Black: Indicates a new post and does not yet have a response/update associated to it. Users are encouraged to either provide a response to the same (in which case it becomes a forum-thread) or update it (then it becomes an article).
  • What other features are available with this section?
We are constantly working to offer you a neat platform to share and grow your IDM knowledge. In the Articles / Forums section, you are able to:
    • View, write, modify and respond to articles and forums.
    • Provide a rating between 1 and 5 to all posts.
    • Sort on existing articles and forums based on name, rating, view-count, modified-date, etc.
    • Attach relevant documents and screenshots to existing articles and forum-threads.
    • Subscribe to updates/responses on topics interesting to you.
